“Educators demonstrate a broad knowledge base and an understanding of areas they teach.”
As I have learned throughout my time in the Bachelors of Education program at UNBC, education is a lifelong journey. Education is forever changing and adapting to fit our student’s needs. As a soon to be teacher, I believe it is important to be open minded and continue to receive feedback throughout your entire career. I am someone who has a passion for learning new things and being adaptable, and being open minded to new experiences and opportunities that present themselves.
I believe that my own educational journey and the experiences I have ha throughout the “Bachelors of Education” program have offered me diverse experiences that will enrich my teaching career in the years to come. I attended Foothills Elementary in Prince George through grades K-7. I had loved my time there and was very fortunate to have some amazing teachers (some that even inspired me to enter the field of teaching). During my high school years, I started at DPTodd Secondary for grade 8 and 9 before transferring to PGSS to continue until graduation. Once graduation came, I still wasn’t sure on what I wanted to do with my life (as many 18-year old’s don’t) and decided to become and Education Assistant with SD57. I worked at both elementary and high schools all over Prince George and worked with a wide variety of students. Being an EA really inspired my passion to become an educator. I was an EA for four to five years while working on completing my 90 credits in general studies (focusing on English) to eventually earn my way into the Education Program at UNBC.
During my time in the Education Program, I have done my practicum at Polaris Montessori, which offered me a new way of looking at education and how learning can take place. I have done a practicum at Westwood Elementary, where I was given the opportunity to explore different learning programs and try new things. This program has offered me many tools and techniques to help find myself as a teacher, who I want to be, what my passions are, what drives me to succeed as an educator, and I think it all comes down to being the educator that never stops learning and evolving. Out students will change over the years, and so will we. That is what educations is, it is growth, it is understanding what works and what doesn’t. as an educator it is my goal to be an example of a lifelong learner for my students, to show them how they can achieve being lifelong learners as well. As a future educator I will continue to practice and demonstrate a growth mindset when it comes to expanding my knowledge, as well as my students and I will incorporate student’s passions into my lessons to enrich their interests of learning new things to create life-long learners.
