Educators contribute to the profession.

This standard offers the willingness and thoughtfulness a teachers profession requires. As teachers, we strive to make our classrooms a space and welcoming place, that offers learning and adaptability so that all students can succeed. Not only to teachers contribute to the profession in the classrooms, there are also many roles that lead us outside of the classroom. As an early years educators, I have not yet gained much experience or opportunities to surround myself in these opportunities, but during my practicum experiences I was able to take the lead of various out of the classroom contributions to the schools I was placed at. During my final practicum, I was given the opportunity to work alongside my coaching teacher and other teachers within Malaspina Elementary and co lead the schools team for cross country. I participated in leading meetings, practices during lunch, and attending the running meets to support and encourage students. This opportunity gave me a chance to get to know other students within the school, run an out of school meet and learn what involves planning an event like cross county. I know in my future years of teaching I will want to create clubs such as pottery or a book blub for students. I want to share my passions and interests with the schools I work in and I want students to feel that they are given to opportunity to have fun and make connections with their school peers in a safe and inviting setting. Although I have just finished my time in the Education Program at UNBC, I also have been passionate about contributing to the profession in a big way once I feel grounded in where I would like to be as an educator, by eventually taking on my own practicum students. I was so very lucky to have three amazing coaching teachers, that taught very differently and were able to encourage and support me in a variety of ways. I hope to one day be that support and guiding person for the future of educators. My journey in contributing to the profession is just starting and I cannot wait to see where it leads me.
